| I got my GT for Christmas just after my 15th birthday. My grandfather had bought it from a guy at McDill AFB in Tampa FL. who had built it. After begging for many years I got it. It was the popular bass boat brown. It had a 1300cc motor with an IRS trans. It was in good shape except it leaked oil (big shock right) I took it in and paid $90 to have the rear main seal changed. That is the last time I took it to a shop. Between my 15th and 16th birthday (1990) it was stripped down body off. New motor 1661cc, new interior, new tires, new center caps for the rims, lots of body work and new red paint. Now looking like a new car adn sounding much meaner, it was a great feeling to take it to school the day I got my drivers license! Since then it has been thru four motors, two trans, two paint jobs (soon to be three) and has been in one major accident and one minor and now has 60,000 miles on it. When I am done with the GTII project it is going to get the much overdue attention it has lacked. However in the mean time it sit in the middle of my photography studio and make a great converstaion piece and it gets the monthly drive to the car show and to the beach. It has cost me more money then I even care to guess and it has been worth every dime. |
